Deuel County Petition Summary (January 12, 2006)
In 2005, Dakota Rural Action circulated a petition seeking to increase the setbacks required for livestock operations and make all livestock permit applications subject to a public vote in Deuel County. The Deuel County Commissioners have challenged the number of signatures needed for this petition and have not held an election on the petition initiatives. The case is scheduled to be heard at the South Dakota Supreme Court in 2006.
