Ag United hosting Livestock Seminar at Sioux Falls Regional Livestock Auction Barn March 27

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Agriculture United for South Dakota will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Sioux Falls Regional Livestock Auction Barn located at the I-29 Canton Exit, for South Dakota farmers and ranchers interested in new or expanding beef and swine facilities.

The program will cover all aspects of constructing and operating a state-permitted livestock facility. Topics to be addressed include a review of state and county regulations, siting livestock operations, fostering neighbor relations, construction of hog barns and monoslope barns, odor control, management and utilization of nutrients, and more.

“Livestock production has become an attractive option for farm families looking to grow their business, be it to provide for a growing family or welcoming children back to the farm after school,” said Steve Rommereim, Alcester farmer and Ag United board member. “This seminar will provide information for these families on every step of starting of expanding livestock production on their farm.”

Speakers will include representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and SDSU, as well as engineers, builders, manure management service providers and feed specialists. Area producers will also be available to answer questions during panel discussions.

Seminar sponsors are First Dakota National Bank and the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council.

The program runs from 10:00 am–3:00 pm, and lunch will be provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by March 23. For more information and to register, contact Ag United at (605) 336-3622 or info@agunited.org.
