Commissioners find nails in driveways

December 02, 2005 Argus Leader

Threatening letters and nails strewn in the driveways of Moody County commissioners are related to support for new dairies, Sheriff Jerry Hoffman said.

Commissioner Martin May said he and Robert Hemmer found the nails Sunday morning. May also described a threatening piece of mail that he, Hemmer and two other commissioners got.

"We got a Dr. Kevorkian gift certificate," he said. "One free assisted suicide."

The four commissioners have voted to grant permits to dairies and are considered supporters of one seeking a permit.

"The one commissioner that's voting against bringing the dairy in is not getting any of this stuff," Hoffman said.
