Ag United, Tri-State Neighbor launch Good Neighbor Award

September 30, 2005 Tri-State Neighbor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Agriculture United for South Dakota (AUSD) is pleased to announce their partnership with the Tri-State Neighbor to launch the Good Neighbor Award.

This quarterly award will recognize South Dakota's livestock producing farm and ranch families who are committed to neighbor relations and dedicated to healthy stewardship of livestock, land and the environment.

"This is an opportunity for South Dakotans to recognize their farm and ranch neighbors who are making a difference in their rural communities," said Scott VanderWal, Volga, S.D., farmer and AUSD president. "This award will honor those livestock producers who have taken extra steps to be a good neighbor, and serve as a role model for all South Dakota farmers and ranchers."

"Tri-State Neighbor is excited to partner with Ag United for South Dakota to honor those producers who are good neighbors," said Wendy Sweeter, Tri-State Neighbor editor. "We hope producers will see the Good Neighbor Award as a positive way to promote agriculture and foster good will throughout South Dakota's rural communities."

To nominate deserving livestock producers, visit www.agunited.org or send a letter to Ag United describing this family and why they should receive this designation. Include details about the family's commitment to their neighbors and community, and the environment and natural resources around them. Be sure to include contact information for the nominated farmer or rancher and yourself.

Farm and ranch families will be recognized with a sign for display at their farm or ranch from Lyle Signs in De Smet, S.D., and other gifts toward an evening out. The person or family who nominated them will also be recognized.

Nominations can be directed through www.agunited.org, or sent to Ag United for South Dakota, PO Box 507, Sioux Falls, SD 57101. Applications should be received by Dec. 1, 2005. The first Good Neighbor Award will be given in January 2006.
