Beef to Benefit Hurricane Katrina victims
September 08, 2005 South Dakota Cattlemen's Association release
Beef has many benefits, but the latest is to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association will donate $1 of every meal sold at the South Dakota State Fair SDCA Beef Booth on Friday, Sept. 9 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
“Watching the devastation down South on TV it really makes us thankful for what we’ve got. It puts some of our problems into perspective. We want to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and this is what we decided to do,” said SDCA vice-president and event organizer Neal Ruhd, Clear Lake.
In addition to contributing part of the profits from the day, the organization will be accepting donations at the booth. If South Dakota receives refugees from the hurricane-stricken area SDCA will give the money to those families. Otherwise it will be donated to a national charity.
“We have no idea how much we will raise, but if I were in their situation, I’d be happy for any help I could get,” Ruhd said.
The Association menu includes beef sandwiches, beef melts (roast beef with peppers, onions and melted American cheese), and all-beef brats. The Beef Booth is located in the food court of the Fairgrounds and will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
SDCA works to advance the interests of South Dakota’s cattlemen through representation and promotion of the beef industry. SDCA focuses on all aspects of the beef industry, from trade and marketing to environmental issues and private property rights. As a grassroots organization, SDCA’s 1,200 members from all across South Dakota make policy to direct the organization.
